This new German study has found a direct link between breastfeeding and a reduced risk of cot death. The most statisticaly significant link seems to be with exclusive nursing. If this is the case, do we really need to be addressing the issue of ‘topping up’ with artificial milk that seems to happento so many babies?
The reasons for partially feeding with artificial milk are many, but most can be avoided with skilled, knowledgable breastfeeding management. Time for a concerted push to bring down the numbers of babies who are supplemented with formula?
